Finding Fun on The Ice
Ice skating wasn't something I grew up doing or even considered until a few years ago when I stumbled upon it almost by accident. I went with some friends to and open skate at a local rink and saw they were offering adult beginner lessons on the weekends. I was in college and trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life and was feeling overwhelmed and a little burn tout. While totally random, ice skating seemed like a fun escape, at least for one quick lesson. But the moment I stepped onto the ice for that first lesson, I was hooked.
I love the sensation of gliding across the ice. It's a feeling of freedom and exhilaration unlike any other. Sure I had skated around in circles with friends as a kid, but I had never learned proper technique or how to do turns and leaps. I started taking lessons regularly, and as I gained more confidence and skill, the sense of accomplishment that came with mastering new jumps and tricks was indescribable. Each milestone I reached filled me with a sense of pride and fueled my desire to keep pushing myself further.
What I love most about ice skating is that it's not just about the physical activity—it's a mental and emotional exercise as well. When I'm on the ice, I feel calm and focused. It's as if the world slows down for a moment, allowing me to focus solely on what I’m doing in the moment.
While I have no plans to compete or do it professionally in anyway, that doesn't diminish my love for the sport one bit. For me, ice skating is about so much more. It's about the fun of being out on the ice, pushing my limits, and embracing the thrill of learning something new. It’s where I find my peace, and release all my stress. Ice skating has become my happy place and my biggest source of fun.
